SASKATOON – A historic expansion at St. Thomas More College (STM) is finished and ready for future generations of post-secondary students to begin their pursuit of higher education in Saskatoon.

An additional 20,000 square feet has been added for classroom and study areas, plus office space. New construction incorporated cost-saving systems and the ability for remote or distance learning.

Friday’s official grand opening marks the largest expansion to the college in half a century.

The total cost of the expansion was $8.4 million, which was made possible with help from the “Creating More” campaign.

St. Thomas More College launched a $6 million campaign in 2012 to expand its existing building and to establish an endowed chair in Catholic studies.

The campaign continues to raise the remaining $2 million.

“We moved into the administrative offices in January, and we got the classes started up here in the second week of January. So we’ve been using it this term, but all the hammering and banging was still going on, but now it’s pretty much done,” said STM President Terrance Downey.

“So we’ve used it this term and it’s been such a gift to our students and I know they’re really pleased.”

St. Thomas More College is the only federated liberal arts college at the University of Saskatchewan.
