Province issues high-water advisory for Assiniboine River

WINNIPEG-In the Province’s latest flood outlook a high-water advisory was issued for the Assiniboine River from St. Lazare to Portage la Prairie over concern for the potential for ice jams.

An ice jam has also been reported near Spruce Woods Provincial Park closing parts of highway 5 and provincial road 350.

Water in the area rose to close to seven feet overnight. The Portage diversion may be put into operation for management of the ice on the lower Assiniboine River within the next 24 hours.

Flows along the Red River are increasing gradually, the floodway isn’t in operation.

The Province is optimistic the cool temperatures in the forecast will slow the melt down.
