WestJet Lands in Penticton

PENTICTON – The City of Penticton is celebrating after learning that WestJet will soon be offering a non-stop flight between the South Okanagan and Calgary.

WestJet Encore announced today that Penticton was selected by the Calgary-based airline as part of its regional expansion program.

“This is phenomenal news for the City of Penticton and the entire South Okanagan region” says Penticton Mayor Gary Litke.

Residents have been lobbying for WestJet service with rallies and flash mobs for a few years now.  Much of the economy of the South Okanagan is tied to eastern destinations, and more efficient connections to Alberta and central Canada have been in demand throughout the region.

“There has been an overwhelming demand in the South Okanagan for increased air service to Alberta.  The City has been working hard to secure this eastern route and respond to the region’s needs, opening the door for increased business and tourism opportunities. We can’t wait to board the first non-stop flight to Calgary.” says Litke.
