The coroner’s office says Fergus’s blood-alcohol level was 0.53% — considered to be extremely elevated.

The 47-year-old Vernon man had been struggling with alcohol before his death.

On the day he died, Fergus had been arrested for public intoxication.  Within hours of his release from jail, he was found lying on a picnic table in Polson Park with a bottle of vodka and mentioned that he didn’t feel well.

The coroner says Fergus had also been treated at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on numerous occasions for alcohol related issues.
