RCMP track 20,000 stolen credit card numbers in Richmond

More than 20,000 credit card account numbers have been tracked as part of a raid on a Richmond condo last month.

On March 21, a search warrant was executed and police seized two credit card embossing machines, a card printer, card skimming devices, numerous forged credit cards as well as several computers and hard drives.

Investigators say the case is linked to Asian organized crime. They are in the process of notifying financial institutions of potentially compromised accounts. It’s unclear how these credit card account numbers ended up in the credit card factory.

Police believe that forged credit cards from this factory have been used throughout Canada and across the border in Washington State.

Alex Chih Sheng Chen has been charged with numerous credit card fraud related charges. Further charges are expected as investigation continues.

Police say Chen first entered Canada on a student visa and has overstayed by over 10 years.

He will be appearing in court today.
