Special weather statement issued as rain headed to GTA

Spring showers are on the way to southern Ontario. Global News

TORONTO – It’s going to get very wet Monday.

Environment Canada has put out a special weather statement for all of southern Ontario, calling for 15 to 25 mm of rain as a very wet system moves into the region.

The Texas low — an area of low pressure that gets its start in the Lone Star state — is moving northeast. The low pressure is expected to intensify and move into Lake Ontario late Monday afternoon and last overnight into Tuesday morning.

Rainfall warnings have been issued for eastern Ontario where higher amounts — closer to 35 mm — are forecast.

The bad news is for Dundalk and Haliburton. The rain will change to wet snow this evening with accumulations of 5 to 10 cm. Some areas such as Algonquin Park and Bancroft could see higher amounts.
