The jury in the trial of Matthew Foerster is expected to resume deliberations later this morning.

Jurors retired last night before reaching a verdict.

Foerster is charged with first degree murder in the death of 18-year-old Taylor Van Diest. She was savagely beaten on Halloween night three years ago.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The question of whether or not Foerster intended to kill the teen was put to the jury yesterday afternoon, after two weeks of testimony.

Van Diest’s family says sitting through the trial has been difficult.

“I think the pathologist basically going over all of Taylor’s injuries that she had sustained that night, that was probably the hardest to go through,” says Marie Van Diest.

We will update you with the verdict as soon as it is announced.
