Local improvement program not working in Regina

Residents on Grant Road and several other Regina neighbourhoods won't have to dish out thousands of dollars to repair their gutters and sidewalks.

REGINA – Residents on Grant Road and several other Regina neighbourhoods won’t have to dish out thousands of dollars to repair their gutters and sidewalks.

This decision comes after homeowners successfully submitted petitions to the City saying the cost of the repairs were too high.

Earlier this year, residents received notice they were on the hook for an average of $7,400 each, or $10,000 spread out over 10 years.

But these successful petitions mean they won’t have to cough up that money, and a total of eight road repair projects have been cancelled.

“So the streets and the sidewalks we will maintain them, we will also use our maintenance practices so we will go in and patch the sidewalk with asphalt and we will remove any trip hazards, said Adam Holmes who is the Director of Roadway Operations and Traffic Services with the City of Regina.

The City will continue to monitor those streets and may go back to the ones that were petitioned against in the future.
