UPDATE: Glenmore Trail re-opened after semi crash

CALGARY – Officials say Glenmore Trail is open in both directions after being closed for a destructive semi-trailer crash on Thursday.

Emergency crews were called to Glenmore Trail and 11 Street S.E around 4:45 p.m., after the driver of a westbound semi lost control and hit the centre barricade causing his truck to roll over.

The driver received only minor injuries, but the crash caused the tractor to separate from the trailer – which was holding a load of boxed meat products.

The severity of the crash forced police to close Glenmore Trail in both directions between Deerfoot Trail and Blackfoot Trail during afternoon rush-hour, and keep it closed overnight.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Emergency crews worked to clean up diesel fuel that had leaked from the vehicle, and right the tractor so it could be removed from the scene.

Officials installed a temporary crash-proof barrier until a permanent one can be put in place in May.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision, and no other injuries were reported.

It’s unknown if the driver will face charges.
