Outpouring of community support leaves dog owner speechless

LETHBRIDGE- Dog owner Irene Prepsl is breathing easier now that her small dog made it through surgery.

The 10 year old Chihuahua was seriously injured after two other dogs attacked him, one grabbing him by the head causing him to lose an eye.

This Chihuahua dog is now recovering after having his eye removed.

Dr. Dawn Abbot with the Northside Vet Clinic had to remove Spice’s eye when it became infected, replacing it with a prosthetic.  Without the owner of the dogs who attacked little spice coming forward, Prepsl is facing massive medical bills that reach into the thousands.

Coming out of this traumatic experience is a remarkable story of community support. The generosity from complete strangers is leaving both the vet clinic and Prepsl in awe.

Good samaritans have been dropping by the veterinarians office with money to be put towards the Chihuahua’s medical bills, and Prepsl is moved to hear that the donations don’t stop there.

When Michael Munton, owner of Benchmark Beef heard about Prepsl’s situation he decided to help.  Munton started spreading the word and people reacted, Ben’s Meats in picture butte is donating a day’s sale of Marrow bones towards the bills.

Another community fixture rushing to Spices aid is Lee Mien, a mixed martial arts instructor who is donating funds from his “Rumble In The Cage” event this weekend.

The men say it’s unfortunate Prepsl was put in this position but in a time of need people from all walks of life will come together to help.

A raffle and 50/50 at “Rumble In The Cage” will raise funds for the surgery. The event is at Exhibition Park this Saturday, April 12 at 6:00 pm.

Anyone wanting to donate to Spice’s cause can do so in person at the Northside Vet Clinic.
