MONCTON – Residents and work crews continue to dig out one of the hardest hit cities in the province.
Mountains of snow have been piling higher and higher in the Greater Moncton area, some so big, they tower over light poles and nearby buildings.
Moncton resident Woodford Taylor says he’s been feeling just how harsh this winter’s been.
“I don’t have any control over the weather, there’s a mightier power than us,” he said. “It does remind me that I’m 72 and I get the sore muscles and back aches once and a while.”
Some of the snow ends up at large private disposal sites like Highfield Square. But a new municipal disposal site is seeing a fair share. The new site is along the Berry Mills Road and Moncton public works employee Jeff Scott says it’s definitely come in handy.
“Quite often people are frustrated with the amount of snow they have in their driveways or front yards,” he said. “If we didn’t have a place like this to bring our snow it would become very unmanageable in the city.”
Scott says the site is also equipped for the big melt.
“This site was constructed to handle to runoff properly and to make sure that its clean before it enters into the stream systems,” he said.
Until then, Moncton residents continue clearing, hoping for warm weather.
