TORONTO – Air Canada is warning passengers that Germany’s Lufthansa-operated flights may be cancelled due to a strike by its pilots union.

Lufthansa says it has cancelled almost 900 domestic and intercontinental flights on the first day of a three-day strike by the pilots’ union.

Air Canada is a partner of Lufthansa in the Star Alliance. The airline says that customers with tickets booked on Lufthansa flights, including Air Canada codeshare flights identified by the flight number range AC9000 to AC9719, may be affected by this disruption to Lufthansa’s flight schedule, according to its website.

Customers who may be affected are primarily those booked on connecting flights operated by Lufthansa via Frankfurt and Munich from April 2 to 4.

It is expected that the German airline will cancel about 3,800 flights altogether worldwide, affecting more than 425,000 passengers.

Air Canada said it has already begun to re-accommodate its customers who are affected, by “rebooking them on alternate airline routings via European gateways according to availability, or permitting customers to delay their travel plans until September 30th, 2014.”
