Elderly woman injured after man steals vehicle in northeast Calgary

CALGARY- A search is underway after an elderly woman was robbed in northeast Calgary on Tuesday afternoon.

It happened just before 3 p.m. at Northgate Mall. Police say a woman in her 70s was walking back to her vehicle after shopping, when a man pushed her over, grabbed her keys and purse, and stole her car.

“It happened in broad daylight, there are a ton of people around, and this scumbag just comes up and does something like this,” says witness John Lemphers. “It makes me physically ill just thinking about.”

The victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The suspect is described as a man in his 20s or 30s, with clean-cut dark hair and a slim build. He was wearing a brown or dark, bomber-style jacket, jeans and sunglasses.
