TORONTO — Rosie O’Donnell will be recognized in June with an honourary Tony Award, it was announced Tuesday.
O’Donnell will receive the Isabelle Stevenson Award, which is presented each year to a person in the theatre community for their humanitarian and charitable contributions.
Previous recipients include Bernadette Peters and David Hyde Pierce.
O’Donnell is being honoured for her commitment to arts education in New York City schools and her foundation Rosie’s Theater Kids.
O’Donnell has hosted the Tony Award show three times and has starred in several Broadway shows, including Grease, Seussical and Fiddler on the Roof.
Nominations for this year’s Tony Awards will be announced April 29 and the ceremony, hosted by Hugh Jackman, will be broadcast on June 8.
