HAMILTON, Ont. – Five people have been sent to hospital and a man is in custody following a crash and carjacking incident in Hamilton, Ont.
Police say a stolen pickup truck ran a red light (at Upper James Street and Stone Church Road) at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday and collided with two other vehicles.
Five people were hurt in the crash, including two young children aged three and six, but their injuries were non-life-threatening.
Police say the male driver then got out of the pickup truck and carjacked a taxi cab after its driver stopped to help victims of the crash.
The female cab driver was dragged for a short distance, suffering minor injuries, and police say officers later found the stolen cab after the suspect fled on foot.
A man was later arrested but there’s no immediate word on charges and police say they are continuing to investigate the incident.
