UPDATE 2:30 p.m.: Highway 97 northbound is now open to traffic

UPDATE: Pelmewash Parkway is re-open and acting as a detour.

LAKE COUNTRY B.C. — The new stretch of Highway 97 in Lake Country is shut down in both directions after an landslide. Police report a portion of the hillside came down and is now threatening to cover the highway.

“Nothing has reached the highway itself but the section has been closed pending further assessment,” said Kelowna RCMP Cst. Kris Clark.

Traffic was originally being diverted to the Pelmewash Parkway, but that road has now been closed as well pending further assessment.

“Traffic is now being diverted to Oyama Road on the East side of Wood Lake,” said Cst. Clark.
