TORONTO – Toronto police are appealing to the public for help finding those responsible for the killing of a 64-year-old landscaper who was gunned down “execution-style” at his home.

Det. Sgt. Pauline Gray says Ngoc Ngo was shot multiple times after he opened the door of his west-end home on Tuesday evening (in the area of Dupont Street and Lansdowne Avenue.)

He was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife and another relative who were in the home at the time of the shooting were not injured.

Witnesses told police several white males believed to be in their early 20s were seen running from the home at the time of the shooting and that they got into a black or dark-coloured minivan that drove away.

Gray says the victim was targeted, either because of “some perceived injustice” or in a case of mistaken identity.

But if it was mistaken identity, Gray says the shooter was “just plain careless and had no regard for anyone else in that home or in the vicinity.”

Gray described Ngo as a self-employed gardener who was married with several children and grandchildren and was well-known in the community.

Police are asking people to think back to Tuesday and whether they saw the described vehicle. Investigators are also looking at security video taken from the area.

One of the suspects was further described as five-foot-eight with a heavy build, with brown hair and wearing baggy blue jeans. Gray says that man is believed to be the driver of the minivan.

“Although I do not believe the murder to be random, I cannot believe that Mr. Ngo…could have crossed paths with anyone who could perceive him as a threat,” said Gray.

“I’m having difficulty coming to a place in my investigation where a 64-year-old man living in his home, in his slippers, is a threat,” she added.
