Government waives fees for flood victims to replace documents

CALGARY- Victims of the June floods are being given a reprieve on the cost of replacing important documents that were damaged during the disaster.

The federal government has agreed to waive the fees to reissue passport, identity certificates and refugee travel documents for Albertans in certain affected areas.

Those include anyone who lives in the following places:

  • A postal code starting with: T2G, T2N, T2P, T2R, T2S, T2T, T3B, T1A, T1B, T1C, T1V or T1W
  • Any of the following postal codes: T2W 6H6, T0L 1N0 or T0J 3W0

Applicants must have lived in the affected areas on June 20, 2013, and have made their application by Sept. 19, 2013.

The price of replacing an adult passport is normally $120, while a certificate of identity costs $260.

The government made similar provisions for those affected by the deadly train derailment in Lac-Magentic, Quebec.
