EDMONTON – A Prince Albert, Sask. woman has lost her battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Karen Pilon, 48, was on life support in an Edmonton hospital while waiting for a double-lung transplant after being diagnosed with the disease last September.

Her family talked to Global News earlier this month to encourage everyone to think about becoming an organ donor.

Clarence Pilon said it is important for people to let their family know of their wishes.

“If we can just help one family today, I’d be happy,” he said at the time.

His wife was able to save other lives, donating four of her own organs.

It can take up to two years to wait for a lung transplant and one in every three patients dies before lungs become available.
