PORT-OF-SPAIN – Officials say an 84-year-old woman has been killed by three pit bulls in the yard of her Trinidad home.
Police say Sylvia Roberts was savaged by pit bulls owned by her son in Tunapuna, a town outside the capital of Port-of-Spain. She was chatting with a postman Tuesday when the dogs attacked. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers shot and killed the animals. Roberts is one of at least seven people killed by pit bulls in Trinidad since 1998.
The mauling comes a week after lawmakers passed a bill that will require owners of pit bulls to get insurance and register their pets with the government. It has not yet been signed into law.
Attorney General Anand Ramlogan says pit bulls have a “propensity for violent attacks.”
