Cupcake ATM opens in NYC

WATCH: Check out the new Cupcake ATM in New York that serves up fresh treats 24/7

TORONTO – Los Angeles-based bakery, Sprinkles, is giving every New Yorker their wish; 24-7 access to tasty cupcakes.

Located next to the Sprinkles Cupcakes store on Lexington Avenue in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, customers can purchase up to four cupcakes at a time via the cupcake ATM.

The machine is stocked with the same flavours sold inside the store, including gluten free and vegan options, and is restocked several times per day.

It can hold over 700 cupcakes and the company says other baked goods, such as cookies and brownies, will be available soon.

Customers who opt to use the ATM will pay for the convenience as each cupcake runs at a price of US$4.25, 50 cents more than a cupcake bought inside the store.

Besides being pink and not giving you money, it works very much like a regular ATM. There’s a touchscreen and a slot for your debit or credit card, but the one big difference is the window where your cupcakes are dispensed.

“Once a customer chooses a flavour they want, the robotic arm goes to that location, pulls the cupcake, keeps it level in its perfect little box and delivers it to the door,” Mara Weber of Sprinkles Cupcakes told radio station WCBS 880.

This is not the first Sprinkles cupcake ATM in the U.S. The company has them in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Chicago and Dallas. The company plans to eventually open more in New York City.

*An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Sprinkles only had cupcake ATMs in Los Angeles and Dallas.
