CALGARY – A flood-affected High River resident is among those who won big on this year’s STARS home lottery.
William Rader won a Red Deer show home worth $945,000.
“We were out of our home for almost two months,” said Rader in a news release. “To hear that we won a house is surreal. It’s a lot to let sink in.”
Meanwhile, a Lethbridge man with a personal connection to STARS was the winner of a truck and trailer.
“My wife was in a motocross accident 10 years ago and was airlifted by STARS, so I believe this is a great cause to support,” says Brodin Fyke, who won a 2014 GMC truck and Arctic Fox 5th. “I buy a ticket every year.”
The STARS Lottery is the organization’s single largest source of funding in Alberta, helping critically ill and injured patients across the province.
This year’s top five grand prize winners are:
- Neil Lunn and Mona Cardinal of Didsbury – Calgary show home worth $1.3 million
- Bart Grover of Calgary – Edmonton show home worth $964,000
- William Rader of High River – Red Deer show home worth $945,000
- Andre Lavigne of Fort McMurray – Lethbridge show home worth $799,000
- Brodin Fyke of Lethbridge – Home away from home truck and trailer package worth $127,430
Other top prize winners include:
- Donald Rulke of Edmonton – Early bird prize winner – $100,000
- Kirk Byrtus of Edmonton – Early bird prize winner – 2014 BMW 435i, Las Vegas vacation and $5,000
- Ralph Holmes of Edmonton – 2014 Audi A5 Progressive Cabriolet Convertible
- Karen Taylor of Calgary – 2014 Mercedes-Benz GLK250BT
- Isabel and Dennis Schultz of Brooks – 2014 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4×4 Crew Cab
- Shona Karas of Calgary – 2014 Acura RDX AWD
This was the 21st annual STARS Lottery – it has sold out every year since it began – raising more than $132 million since 1994.
The lottery raised over $11 million, with 3,200 prizes worth more than $5.6 million retail.
