Edmonton man charged with sexually assaulting young girl

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has charged a 42-year-old with sexual assault charges in connection to a pair of incidents, including one that involved a 10-year-old girl.

Police say they received a report that on Feb. 24 a man approached and began talking to the young girl in the children’s section of the Edmonton Public Library near Sir Winston Churchill Square. The man the allegedly sexually assaulted the girl, before fleeing the library.

Investigators have also charged the man with another alleged sexual assault. He’s accused of approaching and groping a 13-year-old girl, while she was walking on the Southgate LRT platform on Mar. 11.

Child Protection Section investigators arrested 42-year-old Calvin Soosay with two counts each of sexual assault, sexual interference, and breaching probation.

The EPS Child Protection Section is continuing to investigate the two incidents and encouraging witnesses or other complainants to contact police at 780-423-4567.
