CALGARY- A 36-year-old teacher has been charged after police say he was in a sexual relationship with a now 17-year-old student over a period of almost three years.
Police believe the relationship started in April 2011 and continued into February of this year.
The teacher has been charged with sexual interference with a child under 16 years, invitation to sexual touching with child under 16 years, sexual contact with a youth by person in authority and sexual assault.
Police say the name of the man charged and the private school involved are not being released to protect the identity of the victim.
The accused made his first court appearance Wednesday morning.
The Calgary Police Child Abuse Unit became involved after allegations were brought forward earlier this month.
Investigators do not believe there are any other victims in connection with the case.
