Police arrest fugitive in young Red Deer man’s murder

CALGARY- An 18-year-old-man is in custody and charged with first-degree murder after a year-long manhunt.

The teen, who can’t be named under the Youth Justice Act, is accused of killing 25-year-old Lloyd Sarson in Red Deer on January 1, 2013.

Sarson was found dead in a vehicle in an alley. He had been shot in what police believe was a targeted attack.

The suspect, who police say may have ties to organized crime, was arrested in Vancouver on March 13 after police received a tip.

At the same time, police arrested a second 18-year-old man in connection with a murder in Winnipeg last year.

The investigation into Stubbs-Sarson’s murder involved several police agencies including the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC, the Calgary RCMP Major Crimes Unit, the Vancouver Police Department Emergency Response Team and the RCMP Emergency Response Team.
