The Canfor sawmill in Quesnel is closing its doors after 55 years in operation.
Officials say the closure is mainly due to a lack of lumber caused by the mountain pine beetle.
A deal between Canfor and West Fraser Timber to swap tenures has kept one mill open in both Houston and Quesnel.
As a result, more than 200 employees have lost their jobs in Quesnel, but many are taking new jobs elsewhere in the company, and others are retiring.
The mill will be used as a sorting facility until all the remaining wood has been shipped out.
