Freezing rain, ice pellets expected throughout the morning hours

ABOVE: Toronto is in for some nasty weather – but will it clear up in time for the evening commute?

TORONTO – Environment Canada says there’s the potential for wintry weather today.

A low pressure system is set to arrive from the U-S central plains, bringing a wide swath of freezing rain and ice pellets this morning.

Forecasters say the system will extend from Lake Huron east to the Golden Horseshoe and central Ontario and has the potential to impact the morning commute.

Drivers are being warned of possible slippery conditions and are advised to use caution.

Air travelers are also being reminded to check their flight status before heading out as there may be some cancellations due to the weather.

Toronto’s high Wednesday is expected to reach 5 degrees Celsius with a low this evening of plus 1.

Regions located east of Georgian Bay to the Quebec border will see more of a wintry mix of precipitation with snow, ice pellets and freezing rain possible through the day.

For areas east of Lake Huron, especially in the Huron-Perth and Grey-Bruce regions, rain will change to snow tonight and brisk northwest winds gusting to 60 km/h could produce local blowing snow with low visibilities.
