UPDATE: Power back on in Okanagan

UPDATE: As of 1:38 p.m. Thursday, FortisBC says all power in the Okanagan has been restored. However, it has yet to offer a cause for the outage.

UPDATE:  “On Thursday morning, the feed to the Westminster Substation went down, causing the north end of Penticton – including the downtown core – to lose power,” according to City of Communications Officer, Simone Blais. “Alongside power provision partners like FortisBC, the City Electric Utility continues to work on the reason behind the power outage.” There is still no word on what caused outages in the other Okanagan regions.

ForstisBC says large parts of Kelowna, Big White, Osoyoos and Keremeos were affected by the outage late Thursday morning.

Power has since been restored to Kelowna and Big White, but Oliver, Osoyoos, and Keremeos are still without power.

FortisBC says it still doesn’t know the cause of the outage. More details to come.

Original story:  Global Okanagan News is receiving several reports of power outages throughout the city of Kelowna and in Penticton. So far, we’ve received calls from Orchard Plaza in Kelowna, from residents in the Clifton area and in Rutland. The power was also out in downtown Penticton, but it has since been restored. There are also reports on our Facebook page of outages in Oliver and Osoyoos. The cause of the outages is still not known. Calls to FortisBC have not been returned.
