TORONTO – Dozens of vehicle collisions, stalls and wipe outs were reported Thursday morning on Greater Toronto Area roads and highways following Wednesday’s snowfall.
Ontario Provincial Police and tow trucks were out in full force due to icy and slippery asphalt, with many drivers not adjusting to the changing weather conditions.
Once such incident led to the closure of Highway 401 at the 407 for several hours as a tractor-trailer collided with a cement median around 3 a.m. No one was injured in the crash.
Multiple vehicles were also reported in ditches on major highways across the GTA.
Traffic gridlock was reported throughout the morning hours on Highway 401 near Mississauga Road as several truck and tractor trailers blocked lanes due to cold and slippery conditions.
Environment Canada ended a wind chill warning at 9:30 a.m. as the cold weather system is finally making its way through Southern Ontario.
OPP are reminding motorists of treacherous driving conditions but many are not obeying the calls.
