UPDATE: All freezing rain warnings have ended

SASKATOON – A freezing rain warning has been issued for parts of northern Saskatchewan which is expected to begin later on Wednesday.

A low pressure system developing over the southern Northwest Territories will eventually move into Saskatchewan.

An area of freezing rain will develop across northern parts of the province along a warm front by Wednesday evening.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

Precipitation may initially fall as rain but the sub-zero surfaces will cause it to freeze on contact with the ground, creating a layer of ice that will make travel treacherous.

Temperatures will cool through the night and as that occurs precipitation is expected to transition to snow by Thursday morning.

Be sure to check in with the Highway Hotline before heading out in the morning and use extreme caution if headed out on roadways as the layer of snow will be covering some slick roads.
