LA RONGE, Sask. – A man in northern Saskatchewan has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
Thurston Thomas of Pelican Narrows was originally charged with second-degree murder in the death of John Ballantyne in February 2013.
Ballantyne, 39, died in hospital from injuries believed to have been caused by a snowmobile crash while he was travelling to a remote camp 30 kilometres west of Creighton.
Police later ruled his death a homicide.
