Witnesses report hearing six or seven shots, before seeing a vehicle flee the scene.

When police arrived they found one man shot inside a car, and another man a short distance away who had also been shot.  The 29-year-old man from Richmond, Tejinder Singh Malli , has now died from his injuries, while the 28-year-old man from North Vancouver remains in hospital.

The area was quickly locked down police officers.

“Right now we’re working on the background between these two men to see what the connection was between the two of them,” said Sgt. Randy Fincham with the Vancouver Police. “We believe that both of these men were targeted last night. We are looking at a gang connection at this point and both these men are fairly well known to the police.”

He said they have a number of witness accounts at this time. “At this point we do believe there was more than one suspect,” said Fincham.

Some streets around the scene are still blocked off. Cordova Street is blocked between Burrard and Bute Streets and Fincham said he expects that area to be closed for quite some time.
