VERNON — A trust fund has been set up for the family of a Vernon man who died while snowmobiling over the weekend.
AJ Cleary, 34, died Saturday after being trapped in an avalanche in the Monashee Mountains.
The slide came down Saturday near the Keefer Lake resort.
By the time rescuers found Cleary, he had been buried for more than an hour.
He had a weak pulse, but his injuries were too severe and died a short time later in hospital.
Cleary leaves behind a wife who is four months pregnant.
Silver Star Ski resort has opened a trust fund for his family.
Cleary was a nurse at Vernon Jubilee hospital, and he spent many of his off hours mountain biking at Silver Star, where he also coached younger riders.
Donations made out to the Baby Cleary Trust can be dropped off at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation Office located at 2191 32nd Street, Vernon, BC.
