City officials say new Saskatoon property tax notices easier to read

Officials with the City of Saskatoon say the new property tax notices are shorter, easier to read. City of Saskatoon

SASKATOON – Property tax notices being sent out in Saskatoon will look a little different in 2014.

The City has reformatted the look to make easier to read and understand.

Changes were made after officials were told the current tax notice was too complex and had too many pages.

The design has now been simplified, uses colour blocking to highlight the different tax authorities and is a single double-sided page instead of three double-sided pages.

Another change is the elimination of the mill rate on the form. Now, a new ‘tax rate’ is displayed which is calculated by taking the mill rate, dividing by 1,000 then multiplying that number by the mill rate factor.

Officials say using the tax rate simplifies the calculations on the property tax notice.

Property tax notices will be mailed out in May once the provincial government sets the education mill rate in the spring budget.
