SASKATOON – A family is homeless after an early morning house fire in Saskatoon on Sunday.
Crews were called to the blaze in the 900-block of 7th Street East around 4:45 a.m.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the side and back of the three-bedroom bungalow. The fire was located in a bedroom and was brought under control in nine minutes.
Investigators have determined unattended burning candles in the bedroom were the cause of the fire.
A family of four was able to escape without injuries even though smoke detectors in the house were not operational.
An investigation has been launched to determine why the smoke detectors were not working.
