EDMONTON – Finance Minister Doug Horner delivered his 2014 budget at the Legislature Thursday.

Flood Relief

Above: Alberta Finance Minister Doug Horner says the province is committed to helping communities recover from last year’s devastating floods, committing $1.1 billion in Budget 2014 in addition to the $3.8 billion spent through the Disaster Recovery Program.

Savings

Above: As the province’s economic fortunes improve, so does their willingness to save. Alberta Finance Minister Doug Horner highlighted the Legislative Savings Plan, introduced in last year’s budget, and the province’s goal to have savings in the fund reach 17 billion by 2017. In addition, Minister Horner explained that the government is forecasting that the Contingency Fund, which was dipped into during last year’s floods, is projected to reach 5 billion dollars, for a total projected savings of 24 billion dollars by the end of the fiscal year.

Energy Sector

Above: While Thursday was budget day in the Alberta legislature, it was also a big day for Alberta’s premier for another reason. The Speaker of House Gene Zwozdesky offered Premier Allison Redford a happy birthday shoutout before the budget was formally unveiled.
