MONTREAL – Friends and family members of an NDG murder victim packed the Montreal courthouse Wednesday.
Many are still have a tough time accepting the death of 19 year old Sherri Thomas and are demanding justice for the man charged with her violent murder.
“I just wish we were there more for her you know,” said Chanice Moore, one of Thomas’ close friends.
The atmosphere was heavy.
“I’m going through the pictures on my phone, and I see my little cousin,” said Jamaal Gittens, the victim’s cousin.
Thomas’ grandfather used one word to describe murder suspect Michael Gero.
“A bully, there’s nothing short of what I should call him, a bully,” he said.
Last November, police reported Michael Gero attacked Sherri Thomas inside her home on Grand Boulevard in NDG.
The young woman was beaten repeatedly in the head and a gun may have also been used.
Gero is facing a count of second degree murder.
“It appears to be domestic violence,” said police.

As police confirmed last fall, it’s believed Thomas was the victim of repeated violence in the weeks and months leading up to the murder.
They pointed to a video Thomas posted on Facebook a few years ago where she is heard saying “you guys like to lead us on, you guys like to hurt us.”
Friends believe the video may have been a sign of trouble.
“What can make you so angry to lead you to physically, a man of that size, and her, physically so young and so fragile, that’s what I want to know,” said Gittens.
Family members showed up in large numbers in court Wednesday to get some answers but they left disappointed.
The hearing was postponed because the defence lawyer told the court that he was busy in another case.
“We want to know what happened that day,” said Moore.
“It doesn’t make any sense.”
Michael Gero returns to the Montreal courthouse in about six weeks on April 22nd.
Two things will happen on that day: a crown prosecutor will be named and they will declare a possible start date for the preliminary inquiry.
While friends and family wait for that, a fundraiser is being planned to raise money for groups that help abused women.
The hope is it prevents what happened to Sherri from happening to others.
