Oilers trade Hemsky to the Senators

EDMONTON – The Edmonton Oilers have traded Ales Hemsky to the Ottawa Senators for two draft picks.

In return, the Oilers receive a fifth-round pick this year and a third-round selection in 2015.

The deal was made the day after Hemsky scored two goals against the Senators in a 3-2 victory for the Oilers.

During the off-season, General Manager Craig Mactavish said he was looking to trade Hemsky. A deal didn’t happen during the summer, but Hemsky was expecting to be dealt before Wednesday’s trade deadline.

“I knew what would happen. I knew I would get traded. So I was prepared for the past few months,” said Hemsky.

The 30-year-old winger said it was time for him to move on but he’ll have fond memories of the Oilers organization and the City of Edmonton.

“I met so many great people. I pretty much grew up here.”

“I’ve been here for 12 years. I think I’ve tried everything to help the organization,”

Hemsky had 477 points in 652 games during his eleven seasons with the Oilers.
