EDMONTON- Spring is around the corner but it certainly doesn’t feel that way in the Capital Region.
Edmonton and surrounding communities were hit with another blast of winter Tuesday morning.
Snowfall, and a temperature around minus 18 degrees Celsius, made for difficult driving conditions.
A vehicle struck a pole at 34 Ave. and 111 St., blocking the northbound LRT track Tuesday morning, forcing trains on the southbound track to go around the collision, which caused service delays.
Meanwhile, nine vehicles were involved in a collision west of Edmonton.
The pileup happened on Secondary Highway 627, between Highway 60 and Winterburn Road.
There were no injuries in the crash.
Traffic was stopped as tow trucks were clearing the scene. Police asked drivers to avoid the area.
The RCMP said driving conditions were poor in the area Tuesday morning as snow fell in the Capital Region.
Two to four centimetres of snow is expected to fall in the Capital Region by the end of Tuesday. There is a 70 per cent chance of another two to four centimetres of snow on Wednesday.
The average daytime high in Edmonton for this time of year is minus one degree Celsius. The high for Tuesday and Wednesday is expected to be around minus 14 degrees.
The temperature isn’t expected to reach or surpass the average high until Saturday.
