No injuries reported in 4-alarm scrap yard fire in Scarborough

TORONTO – An industrial fire at a scrap yard near railway tracks kept firefighters busy overnight in Scarborough.

The blaze started in the early morning hours at about 1:30 a.m.

There were reports of a series of explosions as the fire spread through the scrap yard.

Crews have had a tough time controlling the fire due to the frigid temperatures.

The closest fire hydrant was more than a kilometre away so tanker trucks were brought in to supply water.

Both lanes of Sewells Road from Steeles Avenue to Old Finch Avenue are closed as crews work to bring the blaze under control.
