CALGARY – An 82-year-old woman has died of her injuries after she was hit by a pickup truck at a downtown intersection on Sunday morning.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the collision at Centre Street and 3 Avenue S.E. at about 10 A.M.

The pedestrian was rushed to Foothills Hospital in critical condition where she later died of her injuries.

Police say the pickup truck was heading eastbound on 3 Avenue and had just started turning left onto Centre Street as the woman was walking across the Centre Street crosswalk.

The impact of the collision threw her several metres.

Police shut down the intersection for several hours as an investigation ensued but the roads have now been reopened.

They say the driver of the pickup truck was a 40-year-old man, and they don’t believe speed and alcohol were factors in the collision.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call them as they continue their investigation.
