Edmonton – Edmonton police are investigating an sexual assault in the south end of the city.
Police say a 23-year-old woman was walking down 68 Ave. near 110 St. Wednesday at around 10 p.m., when she was allegedly attacked from behind by a man. According to the woman, the man wrapped his arms around her chest and pulled her to the ground.
“There was a struggle. They fell to the ground. The struggle continued,” explained Det. Roxanne McKean, EPS Sexual Assault Section. “She was able to scream, and then the gentleman let her go and fled from the scene.”
The woman immediately called 911.
The Edmonton Police Service K9 Unit and Air One were called to the scene, but a suspect was not found.
Police say the woman suffered minor scratches.
McKean says the incident is being deemed a sexual assault because the suspect allegedly made “an overt grope to her body.”
“No indications of a robbery. It was, again, the blitz attack, the grab, and then the overt use of hands to grope her in a sexual manner.”
The suspect is described as being between 5’8″ and 6’0″ tall, with a slim build. He is said to have been wearing dark-coloured clothing and gloves at the time of the attack.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Edmonton Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
Investigators aren’t discounting that the attack could be connected to other similar attacks in south Edmonton in recent months.
“We’re looking at everything that’s happened, whether it’s on the south side or the rest of Edmonton to see if there’s similarities and if we may know who’s responsible or be able to link anything,” said McKean.
