TORONTO – Environment Canada has issued snow squall warnings for Barrie, Orillia, and Grey and Bruce counties. Snow squall watches have been issued for Woodstock, London, Goderich, and surrounding areas.

As cold air once again envelops southern Ontario, west- to north-westerly winds are blowing off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay which could create possible snow squalls. As of 12 p.m. Monday, several snow squalls had already developed over London.

Since most of Lake Huron is frozen, it’s likely that the squalls will only produce about 10 to 15 cm of snow accumulation.

Squalls are produced when the ambient air temperature is colder than the lakes. Combined with winds, they can produce heavy snowfall.

The flurries are expected to continue into Tuesday. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously, as blowing snow will reduce visibility on roads.
