N.B. finance minister says he needs a closer look at federal budget

FREDERICTON – New Brunswick’s finance minister says he’s pleased to see funding for the forestry and the Digby Ferry in the federal budget, but needs to examine the budget details to determine other impacts it might have on the province.

Blaine Higgs says he needs to look at details to learn more about funding for things such as infrastructure, education and training.

The federal government says it will move ahead unilaterally with its Canada Job Grant program if it can’t reach an agreement with the provinces by April.

Higgs says there will be a lot of discussions over the next two months as the provinces try to get the best value under that program.

Liberal Leader Brian Gallant says the New Brunswick government has failed to get Ottawa to address many important items in the budget.
