NEW YORK – Even models love their Spanx.
The global retailer GS Shop, based in Seoul, South Korea, sent the skinny ones down a runway Tuesday in teensy boy shorts, Wonderbras and stretchy shapewear that helped make Spanx inventor Sara Blakely a very wealthy woman.
Blakely, along with Victoria’s Secret Angel Miranda Kerr, were on hand for the lingerie walk that provided an early start to New York Fashion Week’s official kickoff Thursday.
In white, black and neutral tones, some of the models wore one-piece peekaboo Spanx that showed off their legendary lifting Wonderbras, while others sported animal prints, lacy pinks and blues. A few flaunted Playboy Bunny-like black bowties.
Compared to Wonderbra, founded in 1935, Spanx is the new kid. Blakely launched her brand in 2000 and added Manx (Spanx for men) in 2010.
