UPDATE: Highway 3 re-opened Thursday night after being blocked off for days.

It was closed between Hedley and Keremeos after a rock slide sent huge boulders tumbling onto the road.

The slide happened just after noon on Monday and was estimated to be 150-metres wide.

Two vehicles were badly damaged and a woman in one of the cars was treated in hospital for minor injuries.

Dave Swales from the Ministry of Transportation, spoke about the slide on Tuesday afternoon:

“There’s probably 500 at least cubic metres on the road, some the size of vehicles,” he said. “As well as there’s a significant, a major portion of the slide is still uphill. We’ve been monitoring and there has been more rock fall since the original slide.”
