WINNIPEG — A notorious sex offender is back behind bars just two days after he was released from a Manitoba prison.

Ryan James Gabourie, 32, was arrested Saturday in the 200 block of Graham Avenue in Winnipeg after police received a tip that he had “allegedly breached conditions of his release.”

He has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with a probation order and is being held in custody.

On Thursday the Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit sent a community notification that Gabourie was to be released and was likely to live in Winnipeg.

Gabourie previously sexually molested five boys aged five to 11 in their beds after he entered their homes through unlocked windows or doors. Their families were sleeping nearby. He also entered the homes of another boy and girl, but was caught before he committed any other offence.

He was released after he served a seven years in federal custody for those crimes and re-arrested seven days later, on June 28, 2012, after he breached his curfew and a condition that he not possess or operate any device with Internet amenities or connections.

Gabourie was again released on Nov. 13, 2012, but he was seen using a computer and the Internet the next day and re-arrested again.

He participated in some sex-offender treatment while imprisoned but is still considered at high risk to reoffend.

Under the conditions of his release, Gabourie was prohibited from:

  • attending a daycare, schoolground, playground, community centre or public park or public swimming area where children under the age of 14 could reasonably be expected to be present;
  • having contact or communication with people under the age of 16, except for unavoidable encounters in public places or as allowed in advance by his probation officer in writing; and
  • having possession of a computer or Internet access.

He was subject to a 10 p.m. to 9 a.m. curfew, except for in verifiable medical emergencies or when given special permission in writing in advance by his probation officer.
