Eastern cold leads to delays and cancellations at Calgary airport

CALGARY- If you’re headed to the airport to pick up a passenger, it’s a good idea to first check the arrivals schedule.

While air travel is starting to return to normal at Toronto’s Pearson airport, a number of flights were delayed or cancelled earlier Tuesday because of extreme cold. That caused a ripple effect at airports across the country.

Temperatures in Toronto overnight plunged to minus 40 with the wind chill.

All North American arrivals were halted at Pearson airport until 8 a.m. Calgary time, after the extreme cold caused equipment to freeze.

That led to flight delays and cancellations at other airports, including Calgary, affecting flights to and from Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and the U.S. northeast.
