This week on Focus Montreal: January 4

Focus Montreal introduces Montrealers to people who are shaping our community, bringing their stories into focus.

It airs on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 7:30 a.m. and at midnight.

This week we’ll look back at the biggest news stories of 2013.

The year that kicked off with a hockey strike and ended in a heated debate over what values make a Quebecer was certainly not dull.

2013 was marked by remarkable falls from grace with the arrests of former mayor Micheal Applebaum and former MUHC Chair Arthur Porter.

As we watched the testimony unfold, we also watched the city crumble around us, with water main breaks, bridge closures and dozens of overpasses listed in critical condition.

2013 also brought immense devastation to the town of Lac-Megantic when a tanker truck carrying crude oil exploded in the downtown core.

By the end of the year though, Montreal had a new mayor, and there was, despite it all, a renewed sense of optimism heading into the New Year.
