SASKATOON – A Saskatoon Blades defenceman is done for the year after tearing his labrum.

The WHL club announced Monday that 17-year-old Nelson Nogier will undergo surgery in his right shoulder.

Blades estimate he will need three to four months to recover from the procedure.

The hits seem to keep coming for the Saskatoon Blades.

The team has lost 13 games in a row and now they’ve lost one of their best players for the remainder of the season.

This is not only a huge loss for the Blades defence, but the injury comes in Nogier’s draft year.

The Saskatoon product was a “B” ranked prospect destined for the 2nd or 3rd round in the preliminary NHL central scouting report released in November.

To pour even more salt on the wound, Nogier was selected to suit up in the BMO CHL/NHL Top Prospects game on Jan. 15 in Calgary. The event showcases the best draft eligible players from across the Canadian Hockey League.

The Blades next home game is on Wednesday against the Swift Current Broncos.
